Day 5 #3

Hello......Just got home from spending the afternoon w/dad.....He's doin' really well. He was sleeping good when we got there and when he woke up we were all in the room. He was quite surprised to see the room full. He has a nurse named Treva and she has been the best yet.....he gives her crap and she dishes it right back, I asked her if we could just adopt her and bring her home w/us. She is AWESOME!!! She took so much time w/ us, explaining everything and making sure dad was ok. His oxygen levels fell pretty low last night, especially while he was sleeping so they'll sure watch that thru the night, but maybe expect he won't have to have as much oxygen tomorrow. That's some more good news. They did give him 2 units of blood today while we were there. Treva said to not be surprised if he needs more. I didn't really understand the whole hemoglobin needing blood thing, but basically, the way I understand it, all the blood he lost needed to be replaced and it wasn't doing that, hence, he received blood today. He got good color back and was acting sooooo much better. His blood pressure is good as well as his fever. The mode has kind of shifted to what they decide to do about his rehabilitation. They have said he needs rehabilitation 3 x's / day for 4-6 weeks. Well, this is the usual time for this situation, but we all believe (even Treva the nurse) that he won't need that long. Since he has so much upper body strength already and knows how to transfer himself to/from the wheelchair. Of course, he's dealt w/crutches and wheelchairs most all his life, but there has never been limb lose b4 and that will give him some new challenges. The physical therapists/ social workers / Dad & Genny will all meet, dad will be evaluated, they will learn the options and be able to make a decision from there. I asked dad how he was feeling about therapy, he said he just wanted to know all the options and then he'll make a decision based off of that. I told him we all want whats gonna benefit him the most and for him to not worry about if it's gonna inconvenience any of us. Basically they'll be trying to decide between staying in Wichita or coming on back to Hutch. We'll see what happens, as usual, I'll let you know when we know. I wanted to let you all know that dad shared a little more detail about the accident with us this evening. It was pretty yuck, but I'm still amazed he was aware in all of it. He said he wishes he would have passed out. He also said everyone was asking him questions and he just had to pick out the ones he knew and that he couldn't answer them all at once. Oh yeah, he's also figured out what he's gonna do to the trike to modify it. He said he's been thinkin' about it a lot up in the hospital. Hmmmm.........another thing.....John & Nikki got home from their honeymoon. They had a pretty good time although the people in Orlando are rude. They came to see dad as soon as they got off the plane and into their vehicle. John said, "Leave ya for a week and you go and tear (sp?) yourself up." Until next time......Continued Prayers!
